During Food Not Bought’s ‘Healthy People Healthy Planet’ food drive, we strive to provide nourishing and nutritious foods for our community. It is essential for everyone to maintain a nutritious and healthy lifestyle and as a team, we are trying to help those out around us maintain this goal.


Nutrient-dense foods are rich in vitamins and minerals. These foods do not contain a lot of saturated fat, sodium, or added sugar. Nutrient-dense foods include fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish and seafood, lean meats, low-fat dairy, and nuts.


Not only does having a healthy eating lifestyle help you feel more full, energized, and overall better daily, but it will also make your future even brighter and better. Your future self will thank you for making healthy decisions!


Here are some small food ideas for starting a healthier diet:

  1. If you need a crunchy snack - sub out chips for crunchy vegetables and a handful of nuts.

  2. If you need a sweet snack - sub out candy for fresh or dried fruits.

  3. If you want a filling snack - try celery or apples with nut butter.

  4. If you want a quick breakfast - try a smoothie or yogurt with granola and fruit.

  5. If you want a baked treat - make wholegrain fruit muffins.

  6. If you want a chocolatey snack - try dipping fruits and nuts in dark chocolate.

  7. If you want a salty snack - air-pop popcorn at home.

  8. If you want a cold snack - try making popsicles from a handmade smoothie.

  9. If you want a creamy snack - try making avocado toast.

  10. If you want a diverse snack - make oatmeal, there are so many ways to do so!
